USTA Adult Spring League

Lake Norman Tennis Association

USTA Adult Spring League

IMPORTANT LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT EFFECTIVE SPRING, 2025:  For the 40 & Over age division ONLY, the roster maximum for 3.0–4.5 levels has been increased to 17 players. Note: This roster increase does not apply to the 2.5 or 5.0 levels. The 40 & Over format will remain 4 doubles and 1 singles per team match (except in the 2.5 and 5.0 levels, which will continue to play 2 doubles and 1 singles per team match.)

USTA League tennis is a great way to meet & play with people of your same skill level. Each match, teams play doubles and some also play singles, depending on the age division and level (see chart below). Leagues range from 2.5 to 9.0 skill levels.

Teams compete locally and can progress to State, Sectional, & National championship play. No player may register for a particular team in a league lower than their rating. For example, a 3.5 – rated player can play on a 3.5 or a 4.0 team, but cannot play on a 3.0 team.

NTRP Ratings & USTA Membership Info

All players participating in USTA Leagues are required to have an active USTA membership. Click here to create a USTA account. The leagues use the NTRP rating system. Each player must have either a computer rating or must be self-rated. You can find everything you need to know about ratings including how to self-rate, find your NTRP rating, and appeal your rating in the Ratings Info section of our Captain’s Corner/Player Resource page.

Naming Procedure for Teams

Captains, when you register your team in TennisLink, Southern regulations require the following naming procedure:

  • “L” + First Letter of the Captain’s first name + First 2 Letters of Captain’s last name – Captain’s last name / Facility Name

For example, Iris Ham’s team playing out of North Meck Park would be entered in TennisLink as LIHA – Ham/NMP. The “L” indicates the Lake Norman playing area.

  • How to Designate a Co-Captain – (1) player can designate him/herself as your team co-captain. When he/she registers in TennisLink, the player will answer “yes” when it asks if you’re a captain. You don’t need to include the co-captain’s last name as part of the team name. If you’re a non-playing captain, only the League Coordinator can assign this in TennisLink, so email Iris.
Age Groups Offered

A player may play in a particular age group, as long as he / she turns the minimum age designation during the calendar year of registration.

  • 18 & Over
  • 40 & Over
  • 55 & Over
  • 65 & Over

*All players must be 18 years or older to play in the Adult leagues. For the 40 & Over, 55 & Over, and 65 & Over, as long as you are turning the minimum age in that calendar year of play, you may register. For example, a 17 year-old must wait until their 18th birthday before registering in the Adult Leagues. However, a 39 year-old could register to play in the 40 & Over Spring League, even if his/her birthday isn’t until the fall.
